Located at the bottom of the caldera of Mt. Nanashigure, the red-roofed mountain lodge is a long-time favorite of mountain climbers and nature lovers.
This is a box garden created by the nature of Nanashigure. It is a secluded lodge with no private residences within a 7-kilometer radius. Because of this, there is little light from the outside world, and the lodge is famous as a "starry mountain villa" where one can observe the starry sky at the highest level in Japan.
The owner, Mr. Tachibana, loves the scenery of Nanashigure. He is equally passionate about "outdoor sauna. Tachibana says, "At Nanashigure, you can experience the sauna with the best view of the stars in Japan.
Also, two saunas can be enjoyed here: a wood-fired sauna, "Sauna Ihatov", which is the first of its kind in Japan to make use of an old house and respect the culture of Iwate, and a tent sauna that can reach up to 120 degrees Celsius and offers a view of the sky. The owner, who loves sauna so much that he is also a radio personality for a sauna program, makes it possible for sauna novices to use the sauna with ease.
The cafe "Chaihana" attached to the inn soothes climbers and visitors seeking a secluded spot.
It is also a place where many work vacationers, mountain climbers, and long-stay guests stay for long periods of time to reflect and introspect. It is an inn that you should visit at least once in your life.
Lauru: A sauna bathing method from Finland, the birthplace of sauna, in which aromatic water is poured over sauna stones heated by a stove to generate steam. This steam raises the humidity and temperature in the sauna room and promotes perspiration.
