Matsukawa Onsen Kyounso

Information

Matsukawa Onsen, a secluded hot spring, is famous among Hachimantai hot springs for the amount of snow it accumulates. Even though it is extremely cold outside, the inside of the hotel is heated by geothermal heat from the Hachimantai Mountains, keeping every room warm and toasty. From the warmth of the rooms, you will forget the passage of time as you gaze out the window at the snowy landscape, with its deep powdery snow and huge icicles outside.

The view from the windows of the well-designed rooms allows you to experience the changing seasons of the Hachimantai mountains, and is especially popular during the autumn foliage season.

Meals for guests include "Hachimantai salmon," Itou, and char sashimi, as well as many other local ingredients. There is also a self-catering section that inherits the traditional hot-spring cure style, and is recommended for long-term guests.
(*Inquiries are required for the use of the self-catering section. You must bring your own food)

The inn, which can also be fully enjoyed for one-day hot spring use, is famous for its free-flowing, blue-white open-air baths, the color of which changes with the weather. In winter, when it is snowy, and in autumn, when it is surrounded by autumn leaves, it blends in with the scenery and offers a very beautiful atmosphere.

The inside of the museum is filled with the scent of sulfur, and even in winter, the geothermal heat keeps you warm.

After taking a bath, it is also a great way to spend time looking out the window at the snow-capped mountains or enjoying the cool summer breeze.
